Frequently asked questions

How is a credit card EMI calculated?

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the amount, r the monthly rate (annual ÷ 12) and n the months. Banks then add 18% GST on each month's interest and a one-time processing fee (plus GST). “No-cost EMI” means the merchant discounts the interest; the GST on it is still yours.

What EMI interest rate do HDFC, SBI and ICICI charge?

Card EMIs typically run 13–18% a year reducing-balance, with a ₹99–₹999 processing fee. The rate on your offer is shown at checkout or in the bank app – the calculator lets you type it in.

Is converting to EMI cheaper than revolving?

Almost always. Revolving interest is 36–45% a year and removes the interest-free period on new purchases; an EMI at 15% with GST costs roughly a third of that.
